7. Apply the extrude tool to the car's outline, and adjust the extrusion amount until the car's width reaches a plausible size. (Extrusion is the modeling process used to stretch 2D shapes into 3D surfaces.)

8. Create a cylinder object sized to and positioned at any of the car's wheels. Create three duplicates of that wheel and position them inside the remaining three wheel wells.

Baidu Automatic driving Car

Chinese search engine giant Baidu announced that its driverless car has finished road tests and succeeded in automatic driving in mixed road conditions.

The test vehicle left the Baidu building in Beijing Zhongguancun Science Park and drove to the Olympic Forest Park via the G7 Beijing-Urumqi highway and the Fifth Ring Road before returning via the same route.

The vehicle reached a top speed of 100km/hr during the test, according to the company. Baidu said the test was completed with a driver in the car who would take control of the vehicle in case of emergency.

Launched in 2013, the company’s driverless car project is based on the core "Baidu car brain" technology, which includes high-precision electronic mapping, positioning and decision-making systems.

"Automatic driving faces challenges in a variety of driving conditions such as bad weather and congestion," said Wang Jin, senior vice president of Baidu.

"It is a great challenge to test in Beijing, a city with so many complicated road conditions, but luckily we made it," said Wang.

Baidu announced its plan to develop a driverless car in June. It has previously worked on "semi-autonomous" cars with German automaker BMW.

The driverless car is scheduled to make its debut at the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen Township in east China’s Zhejiang Province from Dec.16 to 18th.

IT companies such as Google and Apple are working with auto manufacturers including Toyota and Tesla to develop their own driverless cars. China military paying 'close attention' to U.S. plane deployment

China's military is paying "close attention" to an agreement between the United States and Singapore to deploy the U.S. P8 Poseidon spy plane to the city state and hopes the move does not harm regional stability, the defense ministry said.

The foreign ministry of China, which is at odds with Washington over the South China Sea, said on Tuesday the move, was aimed at militarizing the region.

In a joint statement after a meeting in Washington on Monday, U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter and Singapore Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen welcomed the inaugural deployment of the aircraft in Singapore from Dec. 7 to 14.

A U.S. defense official said further deployments in Singapore could be expected. The move comes at a time of heightened tensions in the South China Sea.

China claims almost the entire energy-rich waters, through which more than $5 trillion of maritime trade passes each year. The Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam, Malaysia and Taiwan have overlapping claims.

The United States already operates P8s from Japan and the Philippines, and has conducted surveillance flights from Singapore's neighbor, Malaysia.

Washington has criticized China's building of artificial islands in the South China Sea's disputed Spratly archipelago, and has conducted sea and air patrols near them recently.
